Participation Trophies

Why did they give kids individual plaques for participation?

They would look detailed with painted gold hinges and a proper trophy, and at the bottom it would say

Goals scored : 0 saves: 0 playing time: 0 minutes games attended : 9

and at the top of the trophy it would say

William Dickson – Westchester Soccer – Fall 2015.

It looked like it was a memorial. I thought to myself ‘ am I bad enough at soccer that people think it killed me?”

My mom hung it up like it was a degree. I was like, “That’s a record of me losing 0–9 to a Catholic school.” -they even put some of the nuns in to make it fairer.  Mother Mary Anne had a hat-trick
